Israel has a Mediterranean climate characterized by long, hot, dry summers and short, cool, rainy winters. January is the coldest month, with temperatures from 5°C to 15°C, and August is the hottest month at 18°C to 38°C.
The rainy season extends from November to early May, and rainfall peaks in December through February. Highest rainfall is observed in the North and center parts of the country and decreases in the southern part of Israel, from the Negev Desert to Eilat where rainfall is negligible.
